Meet Vanessa Shelton

Words have been a huge part of Vanessa's world ever since her Librarian/English Teacher mother taught her to read at the age of 4. Books have been her best friends ever since.

Vanessa was still in junior high school when she discovered a gift for writing. Many people thought her just a little odd because she was one of the few who truly enjoyed writing research papers.

After graduating from nursing school Vanessa worked for a time in varous caretaking jobs including both a nursing home and emergency room, as a respite care provider and foster mom to many disabled children, and later as a doula for women with high risk pregnancies.

Vanessa combined her medical interest and knowledge with her love of words to write several informational and promotionsl booklets for local doctors, lawyers and other professionals. She also had a small resume writing service.

By her late twenties, Vanessa found herself divorced with two chronically ill sons to care for. It was then that her part time freelance work turned into a full time business, and Vanessa's Desk was born.

Today, Vanessa provides copywriting, website development and marketing services to small business owners. She considers communication to be the key to operating a successful business, and she lives by her motto: 'The Right Words - The Right Way" for the Right Results.

Serving Clients

One of my clients is a very good writer. She is wise, sensitive, kind and generous. And she's very, very busy. In addition to taking care of a family and operating a successful business - producing and selling an excellent product - she also helps run several online forums and is very active in her community and several important causes.

She writes a newsletter and dozens of informative articles, blog entries and network forum posts every month. When hiring me to be her VA (virtual assistant) she explained that she had neither the time nor the desire to learn about website design. So I re-designed her website and update it regularly. I also edit, format and send out her newsletter.

I consider her a dear friend as well as a client. And we've never met face to face.

Personal Bits

I'm one of those few lucky people who truly enjoys my work, so I'm often writing or designing even in my free time.

An avid reader since age 4, my most regular activity is a weekly trip to the library to refresh my book pile. When I get a chance (and a good partner) I like cards, puzzles and board games.

My other hobby (friends call it my obsession) is Star Trek. I admit to being a major "Trekkie" and am fascinated by the characters and technology of that future era. If this makes me a bit of a geek, so be it. I only wish we would all "live long and prosper".

Make it so!
